AIR INDIA SELECTS THE THALES ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM FOR ITS NEW BOEING 777 AIRCRAFT<\/p>\n
Air India awarded the contract for the installation of the advanced passenger entertainment system on 23 B777 aircraft to be inducted in its fleet from February 2007 onwards to M\/s Thales at a cost of US$ 70 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
This would comprise the Thales TopSeries digital audio and video on demand entertainment system at every seat with 23\u201d and 15\u201d display for First and Business Class seats and 10.6\u201d display in the Economy Class seat. Every screen would be wide screen and touch screen and each seat will also have a noise cancelling module for high fidelity sound and laptop power. The airline had earlier signed up with Thales to install a similar system on the 6 B747-400 fleet at a cost of US$ 35 million. The installation of the system would mark a major upgradation for Air India in terms of product improvement in flight. The Thales system is one of the most integrated system which efficiently packages Air India\u2019s requirements of an upgraded state-of-the-art technology entertainment system. This system will provide the passengers the best on-board service as well as realize new cost savings due to the system\u2019s light weight design. It would also provide the passengers on non-stop flights the necessary entertainment to overcome flight fatigue situations.<\/p>\n
The airline selected the Thales TopSeries i-5000 on-demand system which was initially designed for the Airbus A380 aircraft. The system is ideal for large aircraft and includes a gigabit Ethernet network for increased bandwidth for data throughput. In addition to the system, Air India will be supported by Thales\u2019 media services group called TopEffects!
